Sniffnet is a network monitoring app for keeping an eye on your Internet traffic. Pick a network adapter and it shows you, in real time, how much data is moving and who it's going to.

What it does

  • Live charts and statistics for your traffic.
  • Domain name, ASN and geographic location of the hosts you're talking to.
  • Which programs on your machine are using bandwidth.
  • Recognition of 6000+ upper-layer services and protocols.
  • Filters, custom notifications and imported IP blacklists.
  • Import and export of captures as PCAP files.

Why it's worth a look

Most packet analyzers assume you already know what you're looking at. Sniffnet is built to be approachable instead, and it's translated into 26 languages. It's written in Rust, it's free and open source (MIT or Apache-2.0), and it runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Installers are in the downloads directory. The Sniffnet wiki covers setup and the more advanced features.

End of transmission.
